Zeenat Aman, still fondly called the “Queen of Instagram,” has once again dipped into her treasure chest of memories, this time pulling out the psychedelic legacy of her iconic track ‘Dum Maro Dum’.

On Monday, Zeenat shared a throwback clip of the legendary song from ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, where her character is seen under the influence of marijuana. The visual alone is enough to transport fans back to the 70s.

But it was her caption that truly set social media buzzing. With her signature mix of humour and reflection, she wondered aloud whether it was time or perhaps the haze of marijuana that has blurred her memory of shooting the famous sequence, which she now recalls almost like a “sublime dream.”

She also opened a window into her early days in cinema, calling it a time of being 19, full of ambition, experimentation, standing at the edge of a big break. For her, the song is personal milestone of voices and creative forces that shaped it.

A song that changed voices, plans, and Bollywood history

Zeenat Aman also revisited an interesting behind-the-scenes twist about the making of ‘Dum Maro Dum’. According to her recollection, the song was not always like what the world knows today.

The makers had initially planned it as a duet between two powerful voices: Lata Mangeshkar and the versatile Usha Uthup.

However, music director RD Burman had a different vision. He felt the composition demanded a more sensuous and smoky tone, which eventually led to Asha Bhosle stepping in to give the track its unforgettable edge.

Zeenat expressed gratitude to Asha Bhosle, saying the song became the starting point of her rise and essentially gifted her a defining moment in her career.

She also revealed that she has shared this story before and even directed followers to revisit her earlier post through her Instagram stories.
